There’s palpable tension in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State as herdsmen on Wednesday allegedly shot dead the secretary of the local government council for reasons yet to be known.

The incident happened in Olo town in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state. The slain council scribe whose name was given as Nnamdi Ogueche was reported to have gone for a peace talk between farmers and the herdsmen in the area that have been terrorising some parts of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in the recent past when the herdsmen allegedly ambushed his vehicle and shot him dead in cold blood.

Vanguard gathered that the council Secretary in company of three others in a vehicle were returning from the peace meeting when the alleged herdsmen opened fire on their vehicle along Ezeagu LGA community road that share common boundary with Umulokpa community, the headquarters of Uzo-Uwani LGA. which led to a stamped and uneasy tension as the occupants of the vehicle including Mr. Nnamdi Ogueche jumped out to different directions into the bush for safety and the assailants allegedly pursued the council scribe and shot him dead instantly.

When contacted for comment over the incident, the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area Mr. Fidelis Ani confirmed the killing of the council scribe along Olo community road while returning from a peace meeting.

He added that the immediate cause of the killing has not been ascertained, but entry has been lodged at Ezeagu police division at Aguobu Owa for investigations to unveil the circumstances surrounding the killing.
