ENUGU— THE Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahman has restated the Command’s resolve in policing the state in line with the community-oriented policing tenets which requires community partnership and stakeholders engagement.

The commissioner of police made this known on Friday in one of the sections of community partnership/stakeholders engagement programme held at Ibagwa Nike community in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

According to CP Abdurrahaman, “Community/stakeholders engagement programme is a veritable aspect of community oriented policing which is geared towards reducing incidences of crime and criminality in our various communities, thus making our areas safe and secured.”

“This is because by that, it will become policing of the community, by the community and for the community. What you have seen that I have started doing in Enugu state communities, is taking policing to the doorstep of our communities in line with community policing tenets and through this, the support of stakeholders are galvanized to enable community engagement which has started yielding its result.

“Under this programme, the command shall organize programme of engagement for Neighbourhood Watch Groups and Forest Guards as well as traffic enforcement team amongst others in order to keep them in line with the modern day policing realities and by that deepen relationship between the police and its relevant publics and stakeholders,” Abdurrahman stated.

Meanwhile, some members of the public had expressed happiness over the state of security in Enugu which has improved tremendously since the assumption of duty of by the commissioner of police.

Since the commencement of the stakeholders’ interface and engagement programme, the commissioner of police has visited stakeholders of Nsukka Area Command, Udenu Area Command, Agbani Area Command, Enugu Area Command and Oji River Area Command during the programme.

It was gathered that stakeholders drawn across all strata of the community are usually being interacted with on community policing tenet and also for officers and men to remain professional by partnering with the members of the house community and for officers and men to shun corruption and other related vices.
