The IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu has commenced activities on the deployment of modules for a safer schools partnership under the POCACOV programme of Safe School initiative.

This was revealed by the National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu on the 21st of April, while reacting on the essence of the safer schools Partnership.

According to Amaraizu, “the programme when fully implemented, will bring about concrete and robust partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and various States Education Ministries, Government Agencies, Parents Teachers Associations as well as other relevant stakeholders in line with the community oriented policing tenets and approaches of the force under IGP MA Adamu geared towards ensuring a safer and secured environment.

Amaraizu also disclosed that “under the said programme, there will be existence of School Resource Officers (SROs) which will be drawn from amongst members of the Nigeria Police Force with specialty in education as well as guidance and counseling and shall be working in partnership with relevant school authorities, Parents Teachers Association and the Communities with a view to implementing partnership approach aimed at supporting teachers, parents and educating School Children on the role of Nigeria Police in a democratic Society as well as safety and security and to help reduce incidences of cultism, violent behaviors, substance abuse, Exam Malpractice as well other vices thereby making schools safer and secured for quality academic activities.

“This lofty programme will equally help to educate principals, headmasters/mistress and school proprietors on safety and security related issues which threaten lives, properties and academics and reawaken the security consciousness of school managers and other relevant stake holders in order to make them safety and security conscious with the staff and students not left out.

“The Programme will equally sharpen police public relationship,” he concluded.
