Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has felicitated with workers in the state and beyond as the world marks the May Day celebration.
The State Chairman of the party, Comrade Stella Chukwuma who on behalf of the Party felicitated with workers in the State on the celebration of Workers Day.
She stated that Workers Day is celebrated globally on the 1st of May each year to pay tribute to workers for their relentless contributions to economic development and growth of any nation.
Speaking on the uniqueness of this year’s celebration which is characterized by sit at home and lockdown, a sharp contrast from the usual colorful rallies and parades, she regretted the ravaging effect of the Covid-19 and its devastating effects on human lives and global economies.
Comrade Chukwuma stated that labour is the ladder through which human dignity and creative excellence are expressed and therefore called on the Government to appreciate the contributions of workers to economic growth and ensure that their welfare is accorded utmost importance.
She also commended the workers for their undying spirit, energy, and risks they have portrayed in building the Nigerian nation especially those on the front line who risk their lives daily to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.
She eulogized the health workers who lost their lives while saving others and prayed God to grant them eternal rest.
