…Commends IG of Police and National Coordinator of POCACOV

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Apex Youth Governing Body in Nigeria, has commended the Nigerian Police for her spirited efforts to Protect lives and Properties in the Country, as well as efforts to stamp out Cultism and other vices from the Nation’s Social life.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, which plays a development oriented, integrating and supervisory role for all Youths and Youth Bodies in the Country, particularly eulogizes the Inspector General of Police, M.A. Adamu, for his Giant Stride efforts in repositioning the Nigerian Police and in combating crimes and insecurity across the Country. Under his watch, the Force has been truly outstanding. We are indeed proud of his stewardship.

We the National leadership of the Council, also commend the Inspector General of Police for appointing a truly thorough-bred Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Ebere Amaraizu, as the National Coordinator of Police Campaign against Cultism and other vice’s special unit (POCACOV)

We see this appointment as a most welcome development, akin to placing a Round peg in a round hole, as CSP Ebere Amaraizu, a man of capacity, is best fit for the onerous task, having proven his mettle, attracting accolades to the Nigerian Police when he served meritoriously as the Former Police Public Relations officer at the Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Police Force; a position in which he displayed high degree of professionalism, people centrism and tact in the discharge of his duties.

POCACOV as a community driven programme working with different stake holders, no doubt has created a positive impact in the society. POCACOV is helping in the redirection of the minds of Nigerian youths and children from negativism to positivism through advocacy, awareness creation, sensitizations, mentoring and reorientation programs.

The recent renunciation of cultism by some cult groups in Rivers and Delta States, submission of weapons, as well as embracing peace as championed by POCACOV, is a clear testimony of the effect of the campaign.

In the same vein, POCACOV awareness and sensitization initiatives, has brought about the proscription of various cult groups by some States. Such States, in Partnership with POCACOV, have come up with Youth engagement and mobilization Programs to encourage Youths to eschew cultism and other vices. These programs have in no small measure, helped to enhance National security. Worthy of mention also is the School Partnership Initiative which saw to the establishment of POCACOV volunteer clubs scheme for safer communities and Schools. These partnership together with the advocacy for safe school partnership for the Boy and Girl child amongst others are eloquent effects created by POCACOV.

POCACOV has also galvanized the support of Enugu State Government for the publication of 25,000 copies of POCACOV moral guide book for schools and colleges titled: “Nigerian Youths in cultism and other vices”, which was distributed to all schools and colleges in the state by the State Government under His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, free of charge.

POCACOV today, has a world class resource Centre where training modules and campaign materials and other issue based resourceful issues are developed and it is called IGP MA ADAMU POCACOV resource Centre Enugu. To ensure wide spread and sustainance of the POCACOV programme, the IGP has domiciled POCACOV in all the States of the Country and of course there is now the existence of NYSC/POCACOV community development service. There is also POCACOV Ambassadors drawn from among broad spectrum of Artistes, Actors, Actresses, Comedians and Emcees. These celebrities serve as drivers and positive influencers.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, as a key POCACOV Collaborator, hereby calls on all Nigerian Youths to shun cultism, sexual and gender based Violence, thuggery/ violence, substance abuse and other vices. We must imbibe and uphold sound values and be worthy Patriots of our Great Country.

The Nigerian Police should be assured of the readiness of the Council to deepen collaborations and engagements with the esteemed Security Agency(ies) to stamp out cultism and cleanse the society from all other vices and ills.

We are fully convinced that the Inspector General of Police will not regret the appointment of CSP Ebere Amaraizu as the National Cordinator of POCACOV as we are assured that he will be bringing his Years of experience and professionalism to bear on his new position. We remain optimistic that we shall see reforms in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.

The Police is indeed Youth friendly. Therefore, the Council shall remain a key Partner, as we synergize to achieve a better, Cultism and Vices free Nigeria.

For the Council,

His Youthfulness,

Comrd. Nnonyelu Williams Onyibor (Mustapha)
Vice President
South East,
NYCN.

Comrd. Ugory Chibuikem Kelvin
