The Enugu State Police Command, has arrested 3 out of the 5-man armed robbery gang, while two others were fatally wounded.

Announcing their arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that following an information, the “Abakaliki Road Police Station on 27/11/2020 at about 0500hrs that hoodlums, suspected to be armed robbers, were vandalizing street/traffic lights near Shoprite Shopping Mall Enugu, Operatives of the Command attached to the Station raced to the location and successfully arrested three (3) of the 5-man armed robbery gang, while two (2) others were fatally wounded.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that on arrival, the Operatives were engaged in a gun duel by the suspects operating in a yellow mini commercial bus, and in the process two (2) of them sustained bullet wounds and were later confirmed dead in the hospital; while three (3) others namely: Anthony Peter (aged 28, resident at New Artisan, Enugu), Eze Chika (aged 20, resident at Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu) and Chika Ndu (aged 25, resident at Ezeama-Nike, Enugu) were arrested.

“Furthermore, the suspects all confessed to the crime, while some of their armed robbery victims have been able to identify them and the items they robbed from them at gunpoints.”

Recovered items

Ndukwe added that items recovered from the suspects include “one (1) Pump Action Gun with two (2) live cartridges, a dagger, assorted phones, an LG TV set, electronic cables, car batteries and cash sum of forty one thousand, seventy five naira all suspected to be stolen.”

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman has directed the transfer of the case to the State CID for dispatch completion of discreet investigation and prosecution of the suspects.

“He further calls on residents of the State to remain vigilant, law-abiding and promptly report suspected criminals and acts of criminality to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172,” he added.
