…the command is unwaveringly committed to actualize mandates of Operation in Enugu –CP Aliyu

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has reiterated the Command’s commitment in actualizing in the State, mandates of the recently flagged-off Operation Restore Peace (OPR) in the Southeast geopolitical zone by the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Alkali Baba Usman, which among other things, is aimed at professionally stabilizing security order in the Zone.

“This reiteration was sequel to the successful arrest of ten (10) male criminal suspects for the offences of kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and affray as well as the recovery of two (2) firearms, four (4) live ammunition of 9mm calibre, one (1) expended cartridge, two (2) vehicles, one (1) tricycle, one (1) machete and other incriminating items, by Police Operatives in pursuance of OPR mandates, the Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwu stated.

 

According to the police spokesperson, brief descriptions of the arrests show that: “On 28/05/2021 at about 0710hrs, the Operatives attached to Nimbo Police Division in synergy with Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested one Okweli Edwin Nnamdi aged 26, Nnadi Victor Nwakor aged 23 (both of Nimbo Village in Uzo-Uwani L.G.A.) and Chisom Nwankpa aged 22, of Umueziokaha Village in Ezza North L.G.A. of Ebonyi State for the offence of suspected kidnapping, while others escaped. Their arrest is sequel to the receipt of several reports alleging that the trio and others at large are responsible for kidnapping of farmers in the area. The suspects confessed to the crime, while discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnap gang at large.

“Also, on 26/05/2021 at about 0730hrs, the Operatives attached to Ogui Police Division, arrested one Daniel Okoro aged 21, of No. 4, Ugonna Street, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu and Nzekwe Michael aged 24, of Ugbene 1, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, at Holy Ghost, Enugu, while others escaped. The duo and others at large, operating in a yellow-coloured Daihatsu Hijet Commercial Mini Bus with registration number: ELU 366 XJ, are alleged to have robbed one of their victims of the sum of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) at gunpoint on 25/05/2021. The suspects confessed to the crime, while the said mini bus was recovered. Meanwhile, discreet investigation has been launched to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal gang and the possible recovery of other incriminating items.

“In another development, acting on a distress call, the Operatives attached to Udenu Area Command in synergy with Neighbourhood Watch Group on 26/05/2021 at about 0430hrs, rescued and arrested from an angry mob in Eha-Alumona of Nsukka L.G.A., one Obetta Emmanuel aged 24 and Chidiebere Oluwu aged 20, and recovered one (1) locally-made Chief Revolver pistol with (4) rounds of .9mm calibre of live ammunition. Their rescue and arrest is sequel to a report alleging that the duo and gang members at large, robbed their victim of her belongings on 15/05/2021 at about 0100hrs in Amundi Village of the same community and L.G.A. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang at large.

“Similarly, the Operatives attached to Independence Layout Division in a combined effort with those of Anti-Cultism Squad, on 24/05/2021 at about 0200hrs, recovered a black-coloured Prado Jeep (Registration Number withheld) in Obe, Nkanu West L.G.A. The recovery was sequel to a distress call received from the owner of the vehicle, alleging that armed robbers snatched the vehicle from him at WAEC Junction, Independence Layout, Enugu on 23/05/2021. On receipt of the information, the Operatives swung into action and after intense pressure mounted on the criminal gang, they abandoned the vehicle and escaped. Meanwhile, frantic effort is being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“In yet another development, the Operatives attached to Enugu Area Command in synergy with a law-abiding citizen, on 23/05/2021 at about 2100hrs, arrested one Abdul Ayuba aged 20 and Sati Sampson aged 25, both of New Artisan Market, Enugu. The duo was arrested while fighting at the said location and upon search conducted on them, one (1) locally-made pistol with one (1) expended cartridge was recovered.

“Also, one Chidubem Odoh (m) aged 21, of Amagu-Akegugu, Nkanu East L.G.A., was arrested on 21/05/2021 at about 1020hrs at Kenyatta Street, Enugu, by the Operatives attached to Uwani Police Division while on routine Patrol Duty. The suspect and others at large, on sighting the Operatives, abandoned a Bajaj tricycle with registration number: UWN 307 QN, they use for the operation and fled. Upon his arrest after a hot chase by the Operatives, the suspect confessed that him and gang members have been responsible for armed robbery activities within Enugu Metropolis, including having at gunpoint on the same date at about 0530hrs, robbed one of their victims of her belongings at Meniru Bus Stop, Enugu. One (1) Machete, one (1), Android Phone and the said tricycle were recovered; while discreet investigation is ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang.

“All the suspects will be prosecuted on conclusion of investigations.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner has enjoined residents of the State to keep assisting the Police with credible information required to further clamp down on criminal elements and to stabilize security order in the State.
