Ebenma Foundation; an organisation that’s passionate about the girl child education and women empowerment has given scholarship to a number of students in the area while placing the women on monthly stipends.

Speaking to Journalist101 after the handing over ceremony held on the 6th of June, one of the directors and financier of the organisation, Dr. Onyekachi Uwguonye (Obiadada) narrated that the foundation is in honour of their mother, Chief Mrs. Cecilia Nwakaego, also known as Ebenma.

Dr. Ugwuonye said that his mother whom the foundation is named after; Ebenma, “having had her own share of poverty, has always been an advocate of girl child education at whatever cost and even in her lack, she never failed to give generously and I believe that every girl and woman has an Ebenma in her and these qualities must be harnessed.”

The Director of programmes in the foundation, Asimonye Ugwuonye disclosed that the selected 10 widows will be getting their stipends at the end of each month while the girl students will be given pocket money every term in addition to paying their school fees.

“The foundation is placing 10 widows on a monthly stipend to help them with the upkeeps and has also taken up to pay the fees and give pocket monies to 16 girls in senior secondary school every term. We have also contacted the school principal of Ezeagu comprehensive secondary school, Isigwu Umana to adopt a seamless process of paying the fees to the school, “Asimonye said.

He also charged the students to understand that the only guarantee for the benefits to continue coming is good behaviour and academic excellence in each term.

Asimonye also disclosed that the foundation through Ezeagu South Youth Coalition, “gave bursary awards to 11 University students selected from the different political wards in the development centre.”
Also “through the foundation, about 8 unemployed youths gets a monthly stipend to help them pending when they will get a gainful employment,” he concluded.
