The dreaded unknown gunmen may resumed their hostilities in South East region of Nigeria as three policemen have been killed and their operational vehicle set ablaze in Awada area, near Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was learnt that two other policemen were injured during the shooting incident at a security post mounted by the operatives along Ukaegbu/Ezeiweka Road on Sunday.

The attackers also set ablaze a police patrol van.

The van is still on fire while residents of the area are presently in panic mode as sporadic gunshots are being fired.

The incident is the latest in what appears to be a growing trend of attacks on police stations and security personnel in the South-East region of the country.

The governors in the region recently announced the establishment of a joint security outfit, codenamed ‘Ebube Agu’ to “battle rising insecurity”.
