The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV); an initiative of the Nigerian Police Force which deploys Community Policing model and working with different stakeholders and multi agencies for problem solving, has called for strong partnership and
collaborations towards resolving the issue of Substance and drug abuse especially the dreaded substance destroying some of the young minds known as Methamphetamine or Crystal Meth known as ‘Mkpurumiri ‘ in Igbo parlance.
According to CSP Ebere Amaraizu, the National Coordinator of POCACOV, “young minds involvement in substance and drug abuse is a dangerous trend capable of spelling doom for the future of the society.
“The substance known as MKPURUMIRI (Methamphetamine or Crystal Meth) is known to be dangerous and has caused negative health and psychological challenges to our teeming youths that would have contributed their quota to the developmental strides of the society.
There’s no reason to justify substance and drug abuse and that of Mkpurumiri amongst our young minds will soon become a pandemic thus, there’s need for strong stakeholders and multi Agency approach and support the discourage of this dreaded and hydra headed monster before the future of our young minds who are leaders of tomorrow are ruined.
“We cannot continue this way and that is why the Nigeria police force through the Instrumentality of POCACOV is involved in the ongoing community to community sensitization using forum base, activity base and committee relations to Advocate, Sensitize, Reorient as well as mentoring our young minds on the negative consequences of substance and drug abuse which includes hindering them from becoming that champion of their dream.
“We also call on Community based groups such as the traditional rulers, town union presidents, youth-based group, faith-based organization and the media to join in raising awareness to discourage the activities of those in the production of this noxious substance (MKPURUMIRI) and others.”
Amaraizu also called for relevant legislation to tame this menace as and support for POCACOV.
“The future of any given society lies with the young minds and we have to collaborate with POCACOV in the ongoing Nationwide Campaign and sensitization to say NO to substance and drug Abuse as well as the noxious Mkpurumiri for a greater society.
