The Federal House of Representatives has revoked its decision on the three gender related bills that were not passed in the ongoing 1999 Constitution amendment.

Hassan Fulata, Chairman, House Committee on Business and Rules, moved a motion for the votes on the bill to be rescinded.

Lawmakers held an executive session after the speaker of the house, Femi Gbajabiamila called for a repeal of votes on the bills that weren’t passed.

After the session, the lawmakers unanimously approved the reversal of the votes via voice vote which led to a thunderous applause from members of the House.

The speaker noted that the three bills would be added in the second batch of amendment bills which will be considered in the coming weeks.

Recall that women from different groups, since Tuesday last week blocked the entrance of the National Assembly, protesting that the lawmakers rescind the rejection of some bills on women.

The bills are; Bill to expand scope of citizenship by registration, Affirmative action for women in political party administration and Provision for criteria to be indigene of a state in Nigeria.
