The Director-General (DG) of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, on Thursday said that his candidate will not be joining the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Rumours have been rife since Obi resigned from the PDP on Wednesday that he will be joining forces with Rabiu Kwankwaso in the NNPP.

But speaking with Punch, Okupe said that’s not true.

“He (Obi) will not be joining the NNPP. You can quote me on this,” he said.

His next party is expected to be announced on Friday.

In 2019, Obi was running-mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. The duo lost to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Obi has a solid supportership on social media, and has won several online polls in recent months. Many of his supporters are young Nigerians who said they believe in his capacity.
