'Charity Begins At Home': Labour Party Leaders Charge Igbos To Take Peter Obi's Project More Serious

It was a gathering of top leaders of Labour Party over the weekend in the heart of South East- Enugu that stormed the coal City State to attend the ‘Charity Begins AT Home’ Conference; an event put together to charge the Igbos to step out and be counted in the March into a new Nigeria.

The event which started with a ‘walk and shout out for Obi-Datti’ climaxed at the Kobb event, centre Enugu which was the venue of the conference that was attended by thousands of supporters.

Speaking at the event, official spokesperson (designate) of the Obi-Datti campaign council, Dr. Tankur Yanusi, said they’re in Enugu to support what Captain Everest Nnaji Odengene is doing for Peter Obi, stressing that the mobilization isn’t something you can wish away.

He said Labour Party led by Peter Obi will transform Nigeria to a producing nation and cut the excess spending in government, adding that the Labour Party presidential movement represents a rejection of the hopelessness in the country, corruption and lack of productivity.

He further stated that there’s a need to build a structure down to all the polling units “because our gathering here isn’t enough. We have 176846 polling units, go back to those units you’re going to vote, build canvasers that are going to vote for Peter Obi in those polling units, that’s where the manipulation takes place and that’s where you will produce a president you yearn for.”

Going down memory lane, he assured them that Peter Obi will replicate the successes recorded in Anambra when he was the Governor of the state.

Dr. Yunusa reminded the people that Nigeria needs a man with Character Commitment Competence & Contentment an Peter Obi represents all these qualities.

Labour Party National Vice Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, representing TUC in his remark, said Obi’s Presidency will end ethnic chauvinism and will usher in the healing needed by the country.

“The Nigerian healing is about to become permanent and the drug for that healing is Peter Obi. He’s the solution to the peace of the country as he will end insecurity because he was never part of those that imported foreigners to come and fight for them in 2015.

“Peter Obi isn’t an Igbo, I refuse to believe that, he’s the antidote required to heal the land. The process of healing has began and God has given us Peter Obi, don’t pull him down from the South-East, go out there and caution your leaders that are working against this project that they’re working against the future of their children and it won’t be tolerated.”

Dr. Olorunfemi went further to state that Nigeria will have peace because Peter Obi represents justice & equity which are the requirements for peace and enjoined Igbos to take their destiny into their hands.

“We’ve given the South East the platform to produce the next president in 2023. The entire 5 states of the South East must give us block votes. The Labour Party will win South South and South West will be divided with Peter Obi having over 50 percent of the votes.”

Similarly, Mrs. Ladi Illiya, Labour Party National Vice Chairman, Representing NLC said women and youths form major block of voters and they must rise up to install a government that will put the country back on the path of growth.

She charged them put their feet down, “popularise the candidature of Peter Obi. Go back and speak to your people about the hope he represents.”

“In the history of the Labour Party, supporting Peter Obi is the first time Labour movement is supporting any candidate for election. This is a clear demonstration of his credibility. We as workers, have decided to stand with Peter Obi, not because of where he comes from but because he’s a credible Nigerian that has made a mark, written his name in gold. It is left for us to come out and do what’s right.”

“The coming of Peter Obi is mysterious and a divine intervention. We need to work very hard and pray to God to see us through.”

Similarly, the convener of 40m ballot revolution Comr. Kennedy Iyere, said “for the first time, all Nigerians are supporting an Igbo Man to be president and Enugu can’t afford to be sitting on the fence.

“This is the first time Nigerians are seeking for a national healing and an Igbo Man is leading this healing process. For the first time, Igbos have a product that’s accepted by all Nigerians.”

The convener of the ‘Charity Begins At Home’ conference, Captain Everest Nnaji popularly known as Odengene while thanking all the party leaders and speakers said “Nigerians had in the past, acted as though they never wanted an Igbo President. But today, we have good Nigerians from all the tribes and religions, coming together to chose one of our own. To say to us, we have one of yours, your own son, your brother, who’s qualified and they can trust to lead the nation.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, Odengene said “its about an awakening. It will be anomalous if the whole Nigeria is saying we have found your own and we’re not hearing anything from Nigeria, we’re not hearing anything from Enugu. I said no, we must come home and get our people to get onto the fire, we must be show that we’re passionate about what’s going on.”

He disclosed his readiness and willingness to lead Enugu in the campaign for Peter Obi presidency, while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead, thus “I’m making myself available as the enabler because if we keep quiet, it will be a shame on our people of our brother is made President and our votes aren’t there at least 90%. This is the reason we’re saying charity begins at home.

“Nigerians have found one of us competent to lead the nation and we can’t be at the back bench, we must be at the forefront. To be able to do that because of the time and environment we live someone must be able to lead you.
To be able to win, protect and make the votes count, we need to have structures in the 260 wards of our state, else, because of the environment we’ve, they’ll use money and confuse a lot of people and in the day of election, we’ll make noise and not see the votes.

“Therefore, you need someone that can provide you that structures and things around it so that the votes when they’re cast, will count.”

Other speakers at the event include: Barrister Beatrice Itubo, Rivers State NLC Chairperson who’s also LP 2023 Rivers State Governorship Candidate; Comrade Kenneth Robinson, National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF and Spokesperson for the Southern & Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) and National DIG Godwin Nwobodo, Rtd.
