The Nigerian Army on Monday, 7th November, 2022, commenced the third quarter workshop for its clerical staff on Office Management and Document Security in Enugu.

The 4-day workshop with the theme: Enhancing the capability of Nigerian Army Clerks for Effective Performance is taking place at 82 Division, Enugu.

In his remark, the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Farouq Yahaya, said the workshop is aimed at reminding the officers “of the importance of securing service documents in a manner that will not jeopardise NA operations and administration.

The army Boss who was represented by Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Jalo, the Director of Manpower Training at Army Headquarters, said that at the end of the training, said the workshop is expected provide a platform for them to “learn and contribute meaningfully towards a different dimension to office management and document security.

He said the training is to help position the Clerks to play their expected roles in achieving the vision of the COAS “which is a professional NA ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria- which is one of the primary objectives of the Nigerian Army.”

He further stated that NA Clerks are one of the tripods of “sound administration through timely and secured conveyance of directives, orders, instructions and other information that enables sound administration in the Army.

“As Clerks, your importance in the scheme of activities is critical as your are involved in every aspect, from drafting messages, typing and corrections as well as dissemination.

“Clerks must therefore be cautious of the
import of their actions on the overall sanctity of our processes. Your duties affect the lives and careers of your colleagues and Comrades. We all rely on the outputs from your work for actions during operations and otherwise.

“Therefore, you cannot afford to take your responsibilities lightly as the consequences will be felt more often well beyond the of offices and orderly rooms where most of you work.”

He went further to encouraged them to take the training more seriously “and not miss this opportunity to refresh yourselves on the rudiments of office management and document security. In the programmes, some new topics have been introduced and are meant to appraise you with modern development in document security and further improve your knowledge on how to safeguard documents, particularly
with the increase use of cyberspace for
relaying messages.

The COAS also acknowledged “the untiring support of the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR to the Nigerian Army,” adding that the “President’s support for Nigerian Army is holistic and as such all hands must be on deck towards achieving the strategic objective of having a highly motivated and effective Nigerian Army.

“This workshop is a manifestation of Mr President’s unwavering support in enhancing our training and welfare packages. I urge you to reciprocate this support by remaining motivated and professionally responsive in the discharge of your duties.”

In his speech earlier at the opening ceremony, the General Officer commanding the 82 Division of the NA, Maj. Gen. UT Musa said the training is “a testimony of the exceptional determination and desire of the COAS to improve the capacity of NA personnel which is one of the cardinal tenets for his vision of having “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria.”

He said 150 Army Clerks drawn from Divisions 6 and 82 are participating in the Third Quarter 2022 Office Management and Document Security Workshop/Seminar

He went further to state that the theme for the workshop/seminar which is “Enhancing the Capacity of Nigerian Army Clerks for Effective Performance was carefully selected to key into the vision and philosophy of the COAS. Accordingly, the workshop is designed to enhance professionalism and operational efficiency of NA clerks.”

“In order to achieve these set objectives, eminent resource persons have been invited to do justice to this seminar and on contemporary office management issues.

“These presentations shall be followed by constructive interactive session with the participants. It is therefore our hope that the participants in workshop/seminar will make the best use of this opportunity to build on their individual and collective capacities for optimal performance.”

He expressed their “deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity given to 82 Division to host this seminar/workshop. I want to also thank the Chief of Administration Army for selecting 82 Div to host this seminar and also facilitated the release of fund for the programme. I must also not forget our sister services and security agencies in Enugu State who have always been behind us during all our events. We appreciate you all for the cooperation and synergy. I will also like to commend the Chief of Staff Headquarters 82 Division, Local Organising Committee, officers and men of the Division for working round the clock towards ensuring the smooth conduct of this workshop/seminar.”
