Two U.S. hostages, a mother and her daughter, have been released by Hamas, a Palestinian militant group.
Hamas’ military wing spokesman says the group released THE captives “for humanitarian reasons”.
A diplomat ALSO confirmed this information to “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS News.
The release follows events that unfolded nearly two weeks ago when the group, which controls the Gaza Strip, carried out a brutal terror attack in southern Israel, leading to a volatile situation and igniting a conflict.
Additional details about the release and the circumstances leading to it are not immediately available.
Israel’s military had previously accused Hamas of taking over 200 people hostage during the recent hostilities.
