A non-governmental organization, Coalition Of Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency Professionals (CIUFGGP) For Good Governance has berated, lambasted and condemned the sponsored and amorphous group operating under the name Concerned Youths of Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency for describing the recent victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in 2023 elections, Dr. Martin Oke against Stainless Nwodo of the Labour Party, who lost on the ground of certificate forgery as cash and carry judgment.
In statement signed by the Coalition President, Dr. Sylvanus Ndubuisi Ajogwu, the group said that Dr. Oke’s victory is a great catalyst for good governance, quality representations, development, reinventing and repositioning of the PDP in the Federal Constituency, Enugu North Senatorial zone and Enugu State in general.
“We are solidly behind and in great support of Dr. Oke’s victory, because of his pedigree, experience and quality representations he has offered to his constituents before now.
On the threats and statement by a group that vowed to resist the judgment that upheld Dr. Oke’s victory, the Coalition statement read.
“We are quite aware of the sponsored, emotional and amorphous group operating under the Pseudo name-Concerned Youths of Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, who issued baseless, puerile, ignorant and undemocratic statement and empty threat of their readiness to resist the judgment of Appeal Tribunal that delivered victory for Dr. Oke. It is appalling that this same group went further to berate, demonise and demean the Judiciary for performing its responsibility in accordance with the constitution in Nwodo and Dr. Oke’s case.
“It is quite unfortunate and disappointing that the group which is a hand of Esau and voice does know that post-elections legal tussle over National Assembly seats terminates at Appeal Tribunal, where Dr. Oke has been declared the rightful winner. Is it not clear demonstration of foolishness, ignorance and illiteracy for the group to say in a democracy that they will resist the judgment of a competent court, when democracy is all about rule of law, due process and constitutionalism? Is there anywhere or way Dr. Oke’s victory contravenes the law? The answer is NO.
“Where were this group when Stainless Nwodo got favourable judgment at Tribunal over his certificate forgery, which was upturned by the Appeal Tribunal in favour of Dr. Oke’s appeal laced with incontrovertible evidence? They were nowhere and non existence. So why the sudden emergence of this wait-and-take group immediately after Nwodo’s loss at the Appeal Tribunal to rant and defame the judiciary for doing its job? Is this not a case of the owl cried in the night and child dies in the morning?
“Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency is too important and strategic in the politics and governance of Enugu State to be represented by a political neophyte and greenhorn like Nwodo, who was removed by court over forged certificate.
“It is not out place if Nwodo should be made to cough out or return all the allowances and entitlements he has collected for himself and on behalf of the Federal Constituency in the last six months in the face of his recent sack by Appeal Tribunal over certificate forgery,” the statement concluded.
This adhoc group with a very long name, does it exist in reality except for this service to Dr. Oke as attack dogs? This is typically representative of a pot calling the kettle black! If a prima facie case of certificate foggery has been established against Nwodo, then in addition to losing his suit, he should be prosecuted.
Now look at this: “Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency is too important and strategic in the politics and governance of Enugu State to be represented by a political neophyte and greenhorn like Nwodo, who was removed by court over forged certificate.” REALLY? Why does it have to be a supposed body of professionals from across two LGAs that takes up a simple matter that even a “neophyte” press secretary could have handled professionally. Someone please remind me, Dr. Oke was in the House for at least 4years, right? Tell me what great representation we had in those years for which we now have so much disdain for a so-called greenhorn.
Until our people begin to see politics as a means to rid us of ignorance, poverty and underdevelopment, the self-serving rat race to assuring stomach infrastructure will continue to keep us in the brute state of nature.
