The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) has requested property developers landlords and tenants, in the capital city, to paint their houses and perimeter fences so as to give the city the esthetic look it deserves.

The agency has also directed property developers in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), New Haven and Independence layout schemes to immediately make available to the agency their title documents and construction approval documents for verification.

Chairman of the ECTDA, Hon Uche Anya said that the urge to seek for the painting of the city walls and perimeter fences became necessary following the nuisance and defacing of the city with properties that were left unattended to, sometimes over some decades.

He noted that Enugu’s status as a regional capital makes it imperative that the city be bequeathed with some desirable esthetics to compliment the resilience that the Coal City is fast being transformed into by the administration of Governor Peter Mabh.

Anya stated that attractive cities have codes of conduct and regulations that guide their developments and transformation to mega cities and gave instances of some states in Nigeria and overseas that adhered to such rules and the allure it attracted thereof in tourism and investment confidences.

He therefore pleaded with landlords and tenants within the three local government councils that make up the Enugu state capital territory to compliment the administration of Governor Peter Mbah’s provision of critical infrastructure and development services by complying with the beautification of their properties, streets and the township.

On the mandatory compliance to presentation of title documents and construction approval documents by property developers in the city center, Anya said that violation of the Enugu master plan by developers had become intolerable, hence the need to scrutinize their documents.

It will be recalled that the ECTDA had in the past raised the alarm that some developers were exerting pressure on the agency to breach rules guiding issuance of building approvals to allow for buildings considered as security threats even to security agencies operating in GRA and Independence layout.

According to Anya, “The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) has directed Property Developers in GRA, Independence Layout and New Haven areas of Enugu metropolis to present within 14 days, their title documents and Construction Approval documents for verification by the Capital Territory.

“Every development that does not comply with this instruction shall be halted until every issue relating to their approval processes are resolved. Property Developers within the affected areas are therefore requested to take urgent steps to validate their title and Construction documents within the given 14 days as non compliance shall amount to gross violation.”
