President Bola Tinubu has directed the resignation of Mamman Ahmadu from office as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

The appointment of Ahmadu has been marked with a lots of controversies following claims that his appointment never had any record of approval from the national council as stipulated in section 7 (1) of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.

Section 7 (1) of the act states that “there shall be for the bureau, a director-general who shall be appointed by the president, on the recommendation of the national council after competitive selection”.

However, in a terse statement by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Saturday, the DG of BPP has been asked to resign as  part of a larger reorganisation effort in the public procurement system to reposition the agency for greater efficiency and transparency.

“The Director-General is to hand over to the most senior officer in the Bureau, pending the appointment of a new Director-General.

“The President thanks Mr. Ahmadu for his services and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” Ngelale stated.
