In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Sarkin Kudun Gatawa of Gatawa District, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, has reportedly succumbed to the horrors of captivity at the hands of ruthless bandits.
The tragic news, breaking on Wednesday afternoon, came from one of his sons, who shared the devastating revelation that the family had received grim confirmation of their father’s death while imprisoned.
Just a month prior, Alhaji Bawa was abducted, and mere days ago, a haunting video surfaced, showcasing his desperate plea to the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and his friends and family, urgently begging for ransom to secure his release before a chilling deadline imposed by his captors.
In that harrowing footage, the venerable monarch appeared visibly battered, with bloodstained garments and shackled limbs, crying out, “I am seeking the help of the government. I am their servant, and I have served them for 74 years, including 45 years in government service.”
With raw emotion, he insisted, “I have always been in the service of the government, and it is the government’s responsibility to help me,” a haunting testament echoing in the hearts of an anxious populace as the specter of violence looms ever closer.
