The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has apprehended Nigerian Navy personnel Abdul Rasheed Muhammad for the brutal murder of Aminu, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd).
During a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, CP Benneth Igweh detailed the chilling account behind the crime. “About two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim was violently robbed and killed in the Maitama area of Abuja, and his Prado SUV was taken,” he stated, revealing that the stolen vehicle has now been recovered.
Expressing the gravity of the situation, Igweh announced, “We have the suspect in custody. Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a serving navy officer, has confessed to the murder.”
When pressed for details, Muhammad recounted a harrowing night he should have been protecting rather than harming. “I work at the house,” he admitted, referencing the former Chief of Naval Staff’s residence.
“Aminu asked for security when he wanted to head out around 11:30 PM. I followed him with my gun.
“He stopped to check his ATM, and I assumed he was making a quick stop before heading somewhere. But then, everything changed. As I stepped out through the other door, I shot him without hesitation. I took the car and fled.
“I’m just a guard, a seaman in the Navy. He hadn’t done anything to me; I killed him for the sake of the car.”
I shot him for the sake of the car, he has not done anything to me. That is the type of nation we have. If this bokoharam recruit could do this to someone he is supposed to protect, who is known to everyone in the house that he went out with, how much can he do to an ordinary citizen in the street? Your guess is as good as mine. And the reality is that we have many of them out there, parading with state authority.
