The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has officially announced the results of the recent councillorship elections in Enugu South, marking a significant milestone in gender representation within local governance.

In a noteworthy development, four female candidates have emerged victorious, representing a progressive step toward increasing women’s participation in grassroots politics.

While declaring the results of the September 21st council election at the Enugu South local government headquarters, Dr. Anayo Ede, the returning officer for the Councillorship Election, announced that PDP candidates won in all 13 electoral wards of the council area.

“I, Dr. Anayo Ede, the returning officer for the election, by the authority vested in me by law, hereby declare these candidates the winners of the September 21st local government elections in their various wards,” he stated after presenting the various tallies from the political parties.

Speaking to reporters following the announcement, Hon. Egbo John Okechukwu expressed his joy at his election, describing it as “free, fair, and transparent.” He noted that his closest rival had visited to congratulate him on his re-election.

Hon. Egbo, who will represent Amaechi East Ward 1 for a second term, assured his constituents that he would effectively advocate for them and “ensure that all the policies we pass in the 10th Legislative Assembly serve the best interests of the people. I will make them proud.”

Similarly, Hon. Ogechukwu Deborah Emelife, who will represent Uwani West Ward 5, couldn’t contain her excitement as she thanked her constituents for their vote, promising to continue championing their interests in the Assembly.
