The Magistrate Court sitting in Nkwo Nike Magistrate District, Enugu, has remanded Mr Tochukwu Nzekwe, CEO of TOSHEL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, in prison for conspiracy, deliberate destruction of public property, threats to life, and subversion of court invitations and proceedings.

On May 28, 2024, a heavily loaded truck, lacking both a tire and rim, was caught recklessly driving on the newly asphalted New-Artisan road, a project constructed by the renowned EKETESON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.

The road was set to be commissioned by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the following day. However, the incident caused significant damage, resulting in a postponement of the commissioning ceremony.

Reports indicate that this act of vandalism was orchestrated by the rival TOSHEL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, managed by Mr Tochukwu Nzekwe.

At the scene, the visibly remorseful truck driver, when apprehended by the site monitoring team, claimed he was returning from Ugwuaji Community with a busted tire. After informing his company manager about the situation, he was ordered to return the truck to the site at all costs. Following this directive, he sped down the newly asphalted road with a single steel drum, causing extensive damage.

Investigations revealed that this was a calculated move to discredit EKETESON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY’s quality assurance standards.

Upon witnessing the damage and the apprehension of his driver, Mr Tochukwu Nzekwe arrived at the EKETESON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY site with over 15 heavily armed mobile police officers, making threats against Chief Donald Ekete, the CEO of EKETESON.

Instead of resorting to aggression, Chief Donald Ekete, through his lawyer Prince Sunny Onyike Esq, filed a lawsuit against Tochukwu Nzekwe in Commissioner of Police Vs. Tochukwu Nzekwe & Anor at the Nkwo Nike Magistrate Court, seeking justice for the damaged road and protection for his life.

Mr Tochukwu Nzekwe was subsequently tracked down at his hotel hideout, arrested under a warrant, and remanded in Enugu Maximum Prison (Correctional Center). The case has been adjourned until October 2024.

Mr Tochukwu Nzekwe is now cooling his heels in the Enugu Maximum Prison, formally known as the Correctional Center.
