Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has rejected a request for Justice Binta Nyako to recuse herself from the case involving Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Kanu made this request during his last court appearance, expressing to journalists and associates that he had lost confidence in Justice Nyako due to her handling of his case. He accused her of ignoring Supreme Court orders.

Justice Nyako had previously indicated her willingness to step aside after Kanu and his counsel made an oral application. However, Chief Judge Tsoho returned the case file to her, noting that two judges had already been removed from overseeing Kanu’s terrorism case since 2015.

Tsoho affirmed that Justice Nyako is the most qualified judge to handle the matter, as she has been involved with the case the longest. He stated that if Kanu insists on her recusal during his next appearance, he must submit a written motion along with an affidavit outlining the grounds for his request.

Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s counsel, confirmed this development and stated that his team is awaiting a hearing notice from the court regarding the next steps.
