The Anambra State Ministry of Health has uncovered an illicit wine factory that was producing a wide array of counterfeit exotic drinks, imitating renowned authentic products.

In a coordinated effort with the state paramilitary agency, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA BRIGADE—authorities apprehended seven individuals at Nkpor, a  suburb near the vibrant city of Onitsha, and swiftly sealed off their premises to deter further illegal activity.

The OCHA Brigade executed a decisive raid on the clandestine manufacturing operation, which had specialized in the large-scale production of fake wines and other imitation drinks that flooded the local market. Over the years, this nefarious enterprise had churned out and distributed countless types of substandard and unapproved beverages, endangering the health of unsuspecting consumers.

A press release by the ministry of health in Anambra State said: “The operation was led by Federal Government Presidential taskforce in collaboration with Anambra State Government against economic sabotage and oil vandalism in the State.

“Seven suspects were arrested and others being questioned to unraveled other syndicates that have contributed to high circulation of fake products which have caused numerous ailments amongst Ndi Anambra.

“The suspects have been arraigned and will face prosecution, as more efforts are in place to arrest others.”
