Two thieves were electrocuted while allegedly trying to steal solar streetlights in the Ogobiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
According to Daily Trust E-Paper, local source, stated that their bodies were found on Saturday morning near the new site of Niger Delta University and the Ogobiri roundabout.
According to the source, the thieves had already loosened four streetlight poles and were in the process of detaching the fifth when their plan went awry.
“They had loosened four solar poles and were working on the fifth when it fell onto nearby high-tension wires. Unfortunately, the power was on, and they were electrocuted,” the source explained.
“One of the thieves was severely burnt and died instantly, while the other was unrecognisable, reduced to ashes. The remains were still at the scene as of Saturday afternoon.”
The source added that one body was taken to the mortuary, while the fallen streetlight poles remained lined up beside the road.
Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Muhammad, stated that he had yet to receive information on the incident at the time of this report.
