On Tuesday, 14th January 2025, the Anambra Joint Security Team achieved a significant milestone in the fight against crime, killing five gunmen believed to be members of a secessionist group.
The team, composed of police, military, and various security agencies, raided the outlaws’ camp located on Umugem Road in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, reported that several gang members escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.
Ikenga stated, “During the operation, the security forces destroyed the criminal camp and recovered four undetonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action shotgun, and one 75-volt battery along with other incriminating materials.”
“The success of this operation is attributed to the collaboration and coordination among the various security agencies.”
“Meanwhile, operations are ongoing in the area to apprehend the fleeing gang members.”
Consequently, Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam calls for greater cooperation from local residents to actively participate in efforts to reclaim the space and deny these criminal elements the opportunity to instigate unrest in the state.
