The Ward and Local govt party secretaries of APGA in Imo, Abia and Anambra states rose from an emergency meeting and threatened to stop all APGA primaries scheduled for September and October.
This development came as a result of the exclusion of APGA ward and LG secretaries from the 3-man statutory delegates slated for the party primaries.
According to a ward secretary from Abia state who spoke to AIF Media some minutes ago, he threatened that no APGA primaries will hold except the party leadership led by Ozo Victor Oye reverts their decision to exclude the ward and LG secretaries.
The ward secretary who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “Secretaries are the custodian of party registers containing the names and details of aspirants who are running for election under our party, some of these aspirants have not stayed up to 18 months in APGA, as required by the constitution and it is only the party register under our custody that can confirm when an aspirant joined the party. We have agreed not to release party registers during the screening, let’s see how the primaries will hold ”
The ward and LG APGA Secretaries said they would ve staged a protest today at Finotel Hotel Awka where the party is holding a retreat for the aspirants but decided to give a Grace period. They said they have written to the national chairman of APGA, Ozo Victor Oye drawing his attention to the exclusion but they are yet to get any formal reaction from from him.
Another secretary from Anambra state said, they are ready to ensure the party does the needful. “No where can secretaries who are the live wires of any association be excluded from important party function like party primaries.
“We have been neglected so much in Anambra. In the November 18 governorship election, gov Obiano gave out mini buses to our chairmen and ignored us. When we protested, he promised to do something, but till now, the governor has not done anything.
“Could you imagine that in Imo state, a governorship aspirant, Hon Uche Onyeaguocha gave out 27 Infinity Jeeps to the 27 local govt secretaries of APGA in Imo state, but in Anambra here, it has been all promises, no fulfilment.
“There won’t be any primaries in Anambra state, because you can’t hold primaries without party registers.”
When AIF Media called on some secretaries from Imo state, they confirmed their resolution of stopping APGA primaries unless they are included as statutory delegates to the party primaries. According to an LG party secretary from Imo state who also asked not to be named, he threatened, “we will burn APGA registers if they do not do the needful.
“How can you include ward Youth and Women leaders as delegates and exclude the party secretaries. It is unacceptable.”
However, our attempt to get the reaction from the Senior Special Assistant to the National Chairman of APGA on Media, Hon Chinedum Onuegbu was unsuccessful as at the time of publishing this news.
We could not also get Hon Labaran Maku, the National Secretary of APGA to address this issue that’s threatenning the conduct of APGA primaries.
AIF Media will make known any formal reaction from APGA leadership to this threat.
