Following report of a rift between the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Tinubu and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly stepped in.
According to The Punch, it is reported that Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo and Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos have also stepped in to save the governor’s impeding loss of the party’s ticket following reports of a possible fallout of Governor Ambode and the National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu.
Though the governor has picked up the nomination form of the APC, two other strong contenders that are said to be in the good book of some king makers, Dr Obafemi Hamzat and Jide Sanwoolu, have also picked up the nomination form for the same position.
According to a source within the party, The president, Oba Akiolu and Governor Ajimobi have stepped in to resolve the alleged rift between the duo that was before now seen as Father and Son.
“There are serious moves to end the crisis. Many people, including the President have waded in. And it is not yet too late for the issue to be resolved.
“President Buhari, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and Oba Rilwan Akiolu are making efforts to ensure that the matter is resolved and Ambode’s second term bid is not terminated.” The source said.
Another source however claimed that there is no rift between Ambode and Tinubu. Rather, the real issue is that the governor is having a serious face off with party some leaders and supporters that said the governor has made them aliens in his administration.
It was reported that Ambode, who recently bought the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reached out to the presidency to intervene in the alleged friction between him and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The report added that the governor was making the move as he battles to neutralize the Mandate Group, a political machine of his godfather.
Ambode is currently battling for reelection against two powerful aspirants, Obafemi Hamzat, believed to have the support of some politicians from Abuja, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, one of the appointees of the governor, who is said to have the backing of Tinubu and his Mandate Group.
