The first hurdle before the main opposition PDP after successfully choosing her flag bearer in a process that even the ruling APC can’t fault.
The choice will give an insight into the kind of presidency we will expect from Atiku Abubakar if he wins the general election. His ability to influence a choice that will be generally accepted by all and and sundry will surely help in increasing his acceptability by the electorate.
The main opposition if they wish to get it right must look towards south east in their shopping for a credible running mate.
The south East is the underdog in this election thus needs to be taken seriously as their vote is usually total for any candidate they so desire. This is the only zone that has remained loyal to the PDP after the South South even in the face of APC hurricane that swept through other geo-political in 2015.
PDP needs someone from south east that can help garner the votes of the zone maximally to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2015- were the zone produced less than 40% of their total registered voters.
The debate of choosing between South West and South East can best be described as leaving the known for the unknown. The PDP is 101% sure of winning the South East thus what should be their concern right now is how to ensure that above 80% of the registered voters turnout to vote.
The South West no matter how you see it will be a battle ground and the ruling APC is in total control of the 6 states in the zone. Despite the offer made to the zone, PDP will still struggle hence why it is important to concentrate more effort in winning the zone maximally.
At the event that the PDP listens to the voice of reason and go East to choose their Vice President, the next question becomes who?
The popular quote “One Japan is enough for the world” can best describes the situation because one Atiku is enough a politician to be in the ticket.
What Atiku needs is a “technocrat” and not a politician to bring the needed balance to the system. By this, the idea of having a former Governor nor anyone that has occupied an elected political office should be expunged from the table.
