Nwabueze, Uwazurike and other prominent Igbo leaders warns Ndi Igbo against boycotting 2019 elections.
One of Nigerian most reverend Constitutional Lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has warned Ndigbo that boycotting the 2019 general elections would be a suicidal mistake. He gave the warning in a reaction to threat by the exiled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, who called on Igbos to boycott the forth coming elections.
Sharing the same line of thought was no other person than the very man who started the renewed agitation for Biafra. In a video message that has gone viral all round the world, Ralph Uwazurike the leader of MASSOB recalled how he started the demand for Biafra ideology in 1999, the sit at home, referendum, election and census boycotts. Showing maturity, he admitted that he made a mistake that has caused Ndi Igbo a lot of required resources meant for developments.
Uwazurike called on the Igbos not to repeat the same mistake twice as the action of IPOB members who are calling for election boycott will hurt Ndi Igbo in the long run.
The MASSOB leader called on Ndi Igbo to ignore the call by IPOB and go all out to participate in the coming elections.
He laid emphasises on some constitutional facts that will make Ndi Igbo boycott of the election irrelevant. As he pointed out that the election requires just 24 of the 36 states including FCT to be constitutionally legal. As a result, the 5 states of South East won’t change anything if they boycotts the election.
