Chief Sir Marc Wabara, the APC Abia south senatorial candidate for the 2019 elections in Abia state was born 67 years ago at Ohambele, Ukwa East L.G.A of present Abia State.
He had his secondary school education at Federal Government College, Sokoto WASC ( Division 1) between 1970 – 1972 , from there he proceeded to obtain Higher School Certificate (HSC) in June 1974. He obtained Bachelor of Science (Banking and Finance) from the University of Lagos in 1977; and between 1981 – 1982 he bagged the Master in Business Adminstration from Adelphi university, Garden City, New York with another MBA – Finance which he obtained in January 1983 with Distinction.
Marc Wabara has had a roburst career, working in different sectors with profound professional experiences and expertise; among them, Accounting Trainee, Finance and Accounting Department between 1977 – 1978 with the Nigerian Ports Authority; an Accountant, Cash and Banking/Joint interest Accounting with Mobil Producing Nigeria between 1979 and 1981.
Wabara joined Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New York as Manager- in – Training, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Long Island Branch between 1982 and 1983 and in January 1984, Chief Sir Marc Wabara came to Nigeria to serve at the International Merchant Bank (Nig) Ltd working at its International Banking, in the Commercial Debit. Rescheduling, Credit and Marketing (Equipment Leasing) department.
He was Senior Manager, Head Correspondence Banking International Treasury at the African Continental Bank ltd between 1983 and 1989 before joining Chartered Bank Ltd as Senior Manager in 1989 and 1999.
He was General Manager , Treasury/International Operations Division at the Manufacturing Merchant Bank from 1991 – 1993; he became the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Hallmark Bank between 1999 and later the bank’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until 2006.
Wabara has since taken to consultancy Executive Consultant in Financial Services, Oil and Gas and Real Estate Industry. He is Chairman of Overt Energy Ltd. (Oil & Gas). Former Member, Governing Council, Federal University Gashua, Yobe State; former member, Board of Directors/Chairman, Techincal/Projects Monitoring Committe, Cross River Basin Development Authority.
Chief Marc Wabara is a recipient of many awards, including, Zik Price Award for Leadership in Banking (2004); Alumni Achievers Award of University of Lagos, 2004; Distinguished Chief Executive Award ( Credit News), 1997; Excellence Award in Banking ans Finance by the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), 1995; Banker of the Year (Financial Post), 1994; National Award in Business Adminstration Member, BETA XI Chapter of DELTA ( Honors for Excellent Academic Performance). 1982.
Sir Marc Wabara is a pround citizen, apart from English, he speaks German, Igbo and. Yoruna fluently. He is also a member also a member of many reputable asocciations anong which are ; University of Lagos Alumni, chartered Institute of Bankse of Nigeria ( CIBN), The Institute of Management Consultants.
As a Lover sports, Chief Sir Marc Wabara is enjoys Football, Tennis , Reading, Travelling. He is Happily married to Marcus Iyanagbo Wabara, and the marriage is blessed with four lovely children.
