The Federal Ministry of Water resources through her Department of Gender and Human Rights today, Monday, 17th December, 2018 kicked off her women and girl child empowerment programme for the North Central region in Nasarawa state.
The event is aimed at training and empowering the women from the region with interest in those living in the rural areas to be independent and take care of their needs and that of their immediate family.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Ibrahim W. Musa Ph.D said the programme is in line with the resolve of the President Muhammad Buhari’s led federal government to fight poverty among the populace.
“Remarkably, this programme is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari administration trust in the fight against poverty.”
He noted that skill acquisition is very essential as it can guarantee the survival of any individual irrespective of where the person finds herself; “It is pertinent to note that; skilled person can always survive in any environment.
“As water is very essential to Human life, so is skill acquisition and empowerment needed in the life of every serous minded human being.”
Also speaking at the official flag off, the head of Gender and Human Rights units, Mrs Ayogu-Eze Nkechi said that the ministry understands the import of exposing the women and girl child to necessary skills that could help sustain them in the society.
“We know that women’s challenges needs to be heard, the freedom and decision making in the society and economic space depends to a large extent on women’s access to resources and improvement in their ability to use the resources available to them.
“This means promotion of financial inclusion, access to economic resources, access to education (empowerment) and capacity building.”
Mrs. Ayogu-Eze went on to say that “empowering women in sustainable investment and business is an issue which is very close to my heart.
“This workshop is on how to make women be self-reliant and have basic knowledge of wealth creation and sustainability.”
The programme is expected to last to last for 3 days after which the successful participants will be given a take off capital to start up their trade.
