Some other serving Senators not returning to the 9th Senate lost their tickets during their party primaries. A total of 33 senators fall into this category.

Eight other serving Senators are gunning for governorship seats in their respective states. This means that in total, 64 Senators out of the 109 senators won’t be returning to the red chambers by the results so far declared by INEC.

However, this figure might increase further since not all the results of the Saturday’s poll has been anounounced.

Consequent upon this, the Senate will be made up of more than 59% first timers that will take some time to learn parliamentary practice and this might not be so good for our legislation.
