Traditional rulers in Abia State, under the aegis of Ukwa Ngwa Traditional Rulers and Old Bende Traditional Rulers have congratulated the Executive Governor of Abia State and Governor-Elect, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, on his re-election for a second term in office.

The Ukwa Ngwa monarchs led by Eze Nwabiarije Eneogwe, the Traditional Ruler of Abayi Ancient Kingdom, paid a congratulatory visit to Governor Ikpeazu at his country home in Umuobiakwa, in Obingwa LGA.

The monarchs from 9 local government areas of the state assured the Governor of their total support and asked him to forgive his defeated political opponents.

Speaking on behalf of the Ukwa-Ngwa Traditional Rulers, Eze Nwabiarije said: ā€œWe the Traditional Rulers of Ukwa Ngwa land are here today to congratulate you and welcome you because you went to the battle field and returned victorious. As your fathers and the custodians of our tradition and culture, we must come to welcome our victorious son and bless you. God who led you in your first tenure will lead you again as you assume office for a second term. Enemies will not see you. You should be gracious in victory. Forgive your opponents and detractors because God has made you a leader over every Abian including us, the traditional rulers.ā€

Also, monarchs from the remaining 8 LGAs that make up the old Bende political bloc in the state have also congratulated Governor Ikpeazu on his victory at the Governorship election.

The monarchs who stormed Government House, Umuahia, expressed happiness that voters in the state kept faith with the Abia Charter of Equity drawn up by the founding fathers of the state and praised the people for the peaceful election witnessed in the state.

Responding, Governor Ikpeazu thanked the monarchs for maintaining peace in their respective domains during the election and assured that his administration will develop all parts of the state irrespective of how they voted.

ā€œI want to thank our people for their massive support to us before, during and after the polls. Special gratitude goes to God Almighty who ensured that we had a peaceful election. I donā€™t think this meeting would have been possible if God hadnā€™t been on our side and showed favor to our state even while other states are still grappling with the aftermath of violent elections.ā€
