The members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) have broken into the premises of the national assembly, forcing federal lawmakers to adjourn plenary.
The IMN members were said to have overpowered security and broke down the first gate, before proceeding towards the second gate.
They are protesting the continued detention of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, their leader.
Yusuf Lasun, deputy speaker of the house of representatives, who was presiding over plenary, announced that he had just been briefed over the development before the lawmakers adjourned.
He said he chose to adjourn plenary out of caution.
More security operatives have been deployed to the second gate, which is just metres away from where the lawmakers hold their sitting.
Security has also been beefed up around the premises of the legislative chamber.
