The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Suleiman Balarabe, said the command have arrested more than 30 suspected criminals for various crimes in the state.
Speaking to Newsmen during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters on the 17th of July, 2019, CP Balarabe said “the efforts of the various formations (Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad; Operation Puff Adder and Anti-Cultism Squad) in Enugu Police helping in no small way to keep the state safe as criminals are having a tougher time operating in the state.”
The Commissioner said the press briefing is part of his resolve to be briefing the press on the activities of the command in crime fighting.
In the month under review, CP Balarabe said “the command arrested 8 notorious armed robbers, 3 notorious car snatchers and the three vehicles they snatched recovered, 5 suspected vandals that specialize in carting away Steel Wire Armoured, SWA, Cables from electric transformers, 2 notorious kidnappers and 15 Cultists that are notorious for killing, maiming and robbing people.”
The police number one man in Enugu State also said that “10 assorted riffles (both local and foreign made), Live Cartridges, Bundles of Armoured cables” were recovered by the command.
Amongst the suspects paraded is one Mr. Kenechukwu Eze a 39 years old man and a native of Amoli Edem in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State who alongside three others at large and another person who’s in prison masterminded the killing of one Barr. Agundu Emmanuel in September, 2018 at Uwani Edem in Nsukka LGA.
The deceased we learnt is the lawyer to Emmanuel Abonyi who is still in prison custody and planned the murder of his lawyer with his gang members including Eze Kenechukwu who’s currently in police custody and helping the command with their investigation.
Also paraded were a gang of kidnappers that kidnapped Mr. Enejere Charles. Member of the gang Mr Hyacinth Okeh, 22 years and Okweli Fredrick, 20 years both native of Nimbo, in Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State said Mr. Enejere is their third victim.
A gang of notorious cultists were also presented before the press. The cultists; Friday Ani also known as Miki old, Elochukwu Eze, Nnaji Ejimnkeonye also known as Igbo Boy and Nwobodo Simeon are members of “Vikings Confraternity.”
Following a cult clash between them and members members of “Black Axe A.K.A Aye Confraternity,” the suspects listed above killed one Mr. Chidera Nworie who’s a member of the opposing cult group.
The murder according to the police is in retaliation to the killing of one of their members by the Black Axe cult group.
The CP said “some of the crimes committed by these suspects are still being investigated and they will be charged to court after thorough investigation.”
He thanked the media for their support and appealed for their continuous cooperation in the fight against crime in the state.
Also present during the press briefing were the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Ahmed Garuba, The DPO of Enugu Area Command, the Commanders of SARS and SCID and the Police PRO in Enugu, SP Ebere Amaraizu.
