The South South East Governors forum has ended their meeting today at Government House, Enugu. Top on the resolution of the forum is the outright rejection of the RUGA programme stating that “there is no land in South east for RUGA programme.”
The Governors forum also discussed extensively on the security situation of the country and resolved amongst others to
- Set up both a committee and centre for South East integrated security Monitoring/intelligence gathering which will be centrally located in Enugu State
- Key into the community programme of the federal government.
- Establishment of forest guards in the 5 south east states.
Clearing up of roads up to 50 meters into the bush to have a clear view of the road ahead.
On the deplorable state of infrastructures in the zone, the forum while applauding the governor of Enugu State for addressing the concerns of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, called on the federal government to take action on the condition of the runway of the Akanu Ibiam International airport.
While commending the Federal Government on the steady progress made on the second Niger bridge, the governors want the federal government to show more meaningful action on the deplorable state of almost all the federal highways in the region.
