…describes the process as more of adoption than screening
The senator representing Kogi West senatorial zone, Senator Dino Melaye have said that the process of screening the ministerial nominees was more of “adoption than screening.”
Speaking on Channels TV programme, “Politics Today” on Sunday 28th July, Sen. Dino Melaye said “some of the lawmakers where just playing to the gallery during the process.”
Speaking on the “bow and go” that have characterised over 50% of the process, Sen Melaye said that “the lawmakers are talking to themselves and it can only get better in the coming days.”
Another issue about the screening process the Kogi West senator spoke about was the non assignment of portfolio to the ministerial nominees. Dino Melaye said “that is what some of us at the National Assembly is against. The whole process is like shooting from the dark because there’s no direction in the questioning.”
Sen. Dino also hinted on his plan to submit a document that will mandate the president to attach portfolios to the ministerial nominees in the nearest time to the red chamber.
He maintained that “assigning portfolios will help reduce legislative time as the nominees will be screened by the relevant committees of the house and this will give room for more scrutiny of the nominees.”
