ENUGU— The Police in Enugu has issued a 3-day ultimatum to those in possession of firearms in the state to surrender it to the State Command or face prosecution in line with the law.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, the security operatives and other relevant stakeholders in the state has been directed to uncover those who fails to comply with the directive after the expiration of the ultimatum.
Part of the statement reads, “The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform members of the public, particularly those in possession of unlicensed or unauthorized firearms in the state to surrender same to the commissioner of police through either the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department, State Headquarters, Enugu, Area Commands and Divisional Police Offices nearest to them, within 3 days of this press release. Strict compliance to this commences with effect from 3rd August, 2019.
“To this end, the Command further wishes to make it categorically clear that anyone found in possession of an unlicensed/unauthorised firearms in the state after the expiration of the 3 days given, will be diligently prosecuted in line with the relevant section of the law.
“The security operatives of the Command working in partnership with other sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders in the state have been directed by the State Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe to fish out those within the categories mentioned over failure for compliance for further necessary action. The commissioner of police enjoins all to the law abiding.”
