The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has frowned at the resignation of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Cross River State, Dr. Frankland Briyai and subsequently joining the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to contest for Governorship seat in Bayelsa State.

In a press release signed by the National Commissioner and the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of , Festus Okoye, Esq. the commission said they are yet to be formally notified by Dr. Frankland of his resignation and “frowns at the REC’s expression of partisan interest.”

In the statement, Dr. Frankland was accused of failing to follow the laid down rules of resigning as a REC in the commission.

The powers of the REC was withdrawn immediately and was directed to handover to the Administrative Secretary.
