Exactly 2 weeks after a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu was gruesomely murdered by yet to be arrested gunmen, another Catholic Church Priest, Fr. Chimezie Ani escaped by whiskers as gunmen opened fire on him.
The incident happened in the evening of Thursday, 15th, August along Ugwuomu road shortly after Caritas University had his vehicle pelted with bullets.
Confirming the incident to Journalist101 correspondent over the phone, Very Rev Fr Benjamin Achi, the Director communications, Enugu Catholic Diocese said, “yes the incident happened along Ugwuomu road as you heard.” Asked if the Reverend Father sustained any injury after the attack, the Director of Information responded; “we are very grateful to God that he was not harmed, he was able to navigate on reverse to a safe distance.”
Earlier, the victim of the attack, Rev. Fr. Ani said; “it was after caritas Towards Ugwuomu that I ran into them firing at the SUV in my opposite direction but miraculous I drove on my reverse for a very long distance before turning.
“And they kept pursing me.
“Brothers we are under attack” the Priest concluded.
