The Governor of. Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed Government’s resolve to continue to uphold the goals of the founding fathers that worked tirelessly to ensure creation of the state.
The Governor stated this at Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia on Sunday, the 25th of August 2019 during an interdenominational service to mark 28 years anniversary of the creation of Abia State and reiterated his Government’s commitment to fulfill all the electioneering promises made to the people.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, acknowledged that, though a lot is still expected from the government to meet up with the people’s expectations, the government is nevertheless, resolute on its commitment to addressing them.
He assured the church that the factors militating handing over of schools to the churches will be sorted out as soon as possible and urged members of the clergy in particular and Christians in general to continue to pray for the State and the nation as they pass through a very challenging phase.
Speaking further, Governor Ikpeazu thanked God for the creation of Abia State and for leading the State so far. He appreciated every stakeholder and the security agencies for their efforts in ensuring there is peace in the State.
Speaking earlier In the Church service, the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Dr Lucius Ugorji, in his homily, thanked God for the creation of Abia State 28 years ago and commended efforts of past and present leaders of the State in harnessing the abundant human and natural resources for the development of the state encouraged everyone to contribute their quota towards the growth of the state.
The Bishop acknowledged the governments’ effort in addressing the problem of youths unemployment through the lifting of the embargo on employment and their commitment in partnering with the church to ensure quality education in the school system through the return of some primary schools to various churches.
The prelate also called for regular payment of workers n the state and extolled the position of Abia state on Ruga Settlement and the Governor’s public declaration that no portion of Abia land is available for RUGA.
