Amidst the rising security concerns in the country, the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by his actions, is rising to the occasion to nip the ugly monster by the bud in Enugu State, a youth advocacy group had said.
The group – Coal City Youths Initiatives, made this known on Wednesday in Enugu after their Executive meeting.
The Director General of the group, Comrade Johnpaul Anih, stressed that “they are not unaware of the efforts of the Governor in arresting the situation and they owe it as a duty to support his actions because he has been a listening leader.
“Our governor being a father and youth friendly Governor, we have to show our collective responsibility in security building of the state” Comr. Ani said.
“Enugu state bu nke anyi niile” he maintained, stating that, “therefore we must collectively make it great. Constructive Criticisms is allowed in order to depen the nation’s Democracy and we are ready to lend our voice in a conducive atmosphere.”
Comrade Anih who also doubles as the Nigerian consultant for Net4 Radio London hailed the proactive action of the governor which included the recent recruiting forest guards which is also an avenue to empower the youths.
“We appreciate the Governor for the recent recruitment of 1,700 forest guards. This is an empowerment again for the youths of Enugu and we are happy with the development.
“The Governor has even gone ahead to procure operational vehicles and motorcycles, this is a positive development,” he concluded.
The Enugu state Coordinator of the group, Hon. Remigius Ozonwama, while calling on the government to ban open grazing in the state, urged the Government to give the group a listening ear.
“All the local government chairmen must be mandated to leave their comfort zones to support the administration that brought them to power. While open grazing ought to be banned. Yes, we should Support & pray for the government, but they must also as well ensure enabling environment for adequate security to thrive.”
A member of the group’s legal team Barr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu called on the hallowed chamber of the Enugu State House of Assembly to enact laws and people oriented policies, for a purpose driven, peaceful, rubost and more prosperous Enugu state.
“Impunities must be checked in all government ministries, departments, agencies, and parastatals.
In his remark, the Director, Local Government matters of the group, Hon. Onyekachukwu Okafor prayed on the Government to “embark on thorough investigation of crimes as it has been in the past 4 years of this adminstration and ensure that, the perpetrators of the heinous acts are brought to book as a deterrent to others.
“We appreciate the effort of the government and the security architecture of the state for the arrest of the kidnappers of the Agbogwugwu traditional ruler in Awgu local government, the killers of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu respectively. They should be prosecuted without delay”.
Since the Governor has engaged security heads in the state, they must double their efforts to compliment that of the Government.
The group also commended the governor for his for holistic approach to the security situation of the state and encouraged him not to relent in his efforts in keeping the state safe and secure as it has always been.
Speaking on the clearing of the bushes by the state, the group said, “the Governor’s visit to all flashpoints and hideouts of these hoodlums is highly commendable but, global warming should be considered while clearing these bushes”
They futher charged the present Commissioner of police Ahmad Abdulrahaman to prove his security acumen in order to entrench peace in the state.
They futher hinged on the need for the Governor to incorporate youths that are competent in his administration to bring fresh ideas.
