ENUGU— The Enugu State Police Command said it would conclude its 3-days town hall meeting on community policing on Friday at the conference hall of the superior police officers mess Agbani road, Enugu.
A statement from the Police Spokesperson, SP Ebere Amaraizu said the town hall meeting as organized by the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force with support from Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP) is in realization of the aim of community-oriented policing by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahaman to reach out to relevant stakeholders and policing actors in the three senatorial zones for effective and improved safety and security in the state.
“The town hall meeting on community policing is to further improve transparency by looking out at those conduct that usually engender suspicions and discouraged trust between the police and the public and sincerely resolve them as police cannot be separated from the public,” the statement noted.
It added that, “the town hall meeting according to CP Ahmad Abdurrahaman is in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu Npm, mni on community-oriented policing which is community partnership driven.
“The town hall meeting on community policing was held on 4/9/19 at Nsukka local Government council hall for Enugu North senatorial zone and on 5/9/19 at the Udi Local Government Area Council for Enugu West senatorial zone with a charge from the Commissioner of Police Ahmad Abdurrahaman for communities to close ranks with their police for improved security and safety of neighborhood pointing out that the police and the public must work together and assured of his Command’s continual readiness to partner with all relevant stakeholders in the state for full realization of community oriented policing.”
The commissioner of police was represented by the Assistant commissioner of police in charge of finance and Administration and focal person of the Nigeria Policing Programme in the state, Oliver Amaechi.
In his remark, the state intervention lead Nigeria Policing Programme Enugu state, Solomon Akpanufot, appreciated the gathering which includes people from all walks of life and pointing out that the NPP will keep supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its bid to making our communities safe and secured through community oriented policing.
Amaraizu concluded that “the outcome of the various community policing town hall meeting from the zones will help the Nigeria Police Force identify various security issues in the zones and also factors militating against community partnership between police and its publics with a view to resolving and improving on them for effective community partnership that will bring about effective community oriented policing for a safe and secured communities.”
