The leadership of Uvuru Solidarity Group (USG) in Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State, has warned politicians in the area involved in the campaign of calumny against some of their stakeholders to as a matter of urgency, desist from such ignoble act.
The call by the group is coming after some group of persons took to social media to malign some leaders in the community, accusing them of exploiting some youths in the community with the promise of submitting their names to be part of the Forest Guards currently being recruited by the state government.
Speaking to JOURNALIST101, the leader of the group, Sunday Okoro said: “the development isn’t only disturbing, it is evil that people, for gains best known to them, will develop such thought against our revered leaders.
“It is laughable for them to even mention the name of one of our illustrious sons, Rt. Hon. Tony Okechukwu Chigbo. We would have ignored the beer parlor chat like we always do but they have overstepped their bounds thus the need for us to remind some of these political jobbers that we understand their gimmicks.
What will a former Chairman of Uzo-Uwani LGA, former House of Assembly member, former Special Adviser to Enugu State Governor on House of Assembly Matters and a retired Department of State Security, DSS, Officer be doing with the paltry sum being mentioned by these naysayers?
“I have a document endorsed by the Igwe of Uvuru Community and signed by the Stakeholders in the community on this issue of Forest Guards as it concerns our community. How can people that were part of a decision taken by the leaders turn back and accuse others?
“Let me state for record purpose, Hon. Chigbo is the pride of our community and in any society that rewards service to the people, he should be celebrated and not otherwise.
“He’s the only council chairman that lived in Umulokpa, the council headquarters throughout his days in office. Under one year in office, he recalled 106 staff of the LGA that was sacked before he came, paid them all their salaries, he launched a transport scheme for the LGA called UZUMAT with 12 buses and 5 cars. As a chairman for just one year, Hon. Chigbo built the current Uzo-Uwani guest house, graded the road from Nkpologu to Umulokpa twice, all within one year.
‘So, when some misguided children are contracted by failed politicians to attack a character like Chigbo, you will understand. It’s only a fruitful tree that people throw stone at. Is Hon. Chigbo hungry? Of course no. He is currently, the MD and CEO of Morning Star Oil and Gas, Agbani Nsukk, one of the best filling stations in the area.
When contacted for his reaction on the development in his area, the councillor representing Uvuru ward and the leader of Uzo-Uwani Legislative Assembly, Hon. Pat Ezugwu said it’s ridiculous for him to react to such baseless accusation. “Who are the people making this baseless claims” he asked. “I challenge such character(s) to come forth with an evidence that Rt. Hon Anthony Chigbo collected a penny from him or her.
“Let me make one thing very clear to you, Rt. Hon. Chigbo is a man of Integrity, honour and an unparalleled philanthropist who has touched a lot of lives both in Uzo-Uwani and beyond. I can give you verifiable names of the people God gave their lives a meaning through this man.
“Rt. Hon. Chigbo is an institution and a role model, you can’t wish that away. These things are politics played by people on cheap drugs and should be discarded with a wave of hand because it is a baseless accusation,” he concluded
