Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has expressed his willingness to waive his constitutional immunity to allow probe into fraudulent allegations levelled against him.
Mr Osinbajo stated this on Wednesday via his verified twitter handle in reaction while to insinuations in some quarters that his recent travails has nothing to do with 2023 presidency but bordered on misuse of N90 billion allegedly given to him for the prosecution of the last general election in favour of the ruling party in the Southwest zone.
A national daily in a recent report credited to the former deputy national publicity secretary of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Timi Frank, said the ordeal of the number two is caused by an alleged N90billion given to him from the coffers of the Federal Inland Revenue Inland Service (FIRS).
Mr Osinbajo has demanded an apology from the national daily for allowing its platform to be used in disseminating the allegation.
The demand is contained in a letter written by his legal counsel, Femi Falana.
In reaction to the corruption allegations, Prof. Osinbajo said; “In the past few days, a spate of reckless and malicious falsehoods have been peddled in the media against me by a group of malicious individuals,” Osinbajo said in a statement reproduced on his social media accounts.
“The defamatory and misleading assertions invented by this clique have been making the social media rounds anonymously.
“I have today instructed the commencement of legal action against two individuals, one Timi Frank and another Katch Ononuju, who have put their names to these odious falsehoods.
“I will waive my constitutional immunity to enable the most robust adjudication of these claims of libel and malicious falsehood,” he added.
