…encourages the public to come forward with any case of extortion by any officer.
The Enugu state commissioner of police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, has stated that his utmost priority in the state, is to make it safe and secure.
CP Ahmad made this known on Monday, 30th September, 2019 while addressing officers and men of Enugu Area command of the Nigeria police force as well as stake holders at area command headquarters, Abakpa, Enugu state on the occassion of his familiarization visit.
According to the commissioner of police; “Officers and men of the force must close rank with members of the public who are also regarded as stakeholders and avoiding those negative tendencies such as extortion of motorists by stop and search duty personnel, counter duty men and investigators amongst others as they scare members of the public from dealing sincerely with their police.”
He went on to caution the personnels to; “say NO to all this and be professional in discharging their duties as anyone caught in the web of extortion/corruption will be sanctioned in line with provision of relevant laws.”
He further warned officers not to give him any money or use his name to collect any money or gift from any person. He maintained that; “Bail is free and remained free” and urged anyone with report of extortion in any guise to bring such report before him and watch how such will be treated.
” I charge all of you to be professional and not to extort, you should not bring any money or your so called gift to me.”
He commended the Royal fathers present at the occassion as well as men of the police Community Relations committee and Neighborhood watch men for finding time to attend the event as well as their unquantifiable partnership which they have given to the command.
He maintained that under his watch, “the command will continue to be enjoying a robust partnership with members of the public and other relevant security agencies.”
Speaking at the event, HRH, Igwe Michael Igbuji, Ikeoha 1 of Mbulu Anwuli Nike community thanked the Commissioner of police for the partnership visit and assured him on behalf of other traditional rulers of their continued partnership.
The Royal father commended the commissioner of police whom he described as an incorruptible officer going by his track record and asked him to keep up the good work in the state.
In his speech, the state vice chairman and also the area command vice chairman of police community relations committee Enugu state, Barr. Dr Aikey Ubaka thanked the commissioner of police and assured of the continued support and partnership of the police community relations committee.
Similarly, the welfare officer of the state neighborhood watch Association and coordinator trans ekulu neighborhood watch Chief Mrs AnswerGod Ezeah welcomed the commissioner of police on behalf of the neighborhood watch group and assured of their continued and robust policing partnership.
