The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev said; “I’m sure that a secure world can’t be built on blood, (but) only on harmony. In the interest of promotion of this harmony, Ezeagu Youths Assembly, EYA, is putting together a one-day security summit with the theme; “Enhancing Economic Growth Through The Provision Of Adequate Security.”
Ezeagu Youths Assembly, one of the leading youth organisations in Ezeagu local government areas of Enugu State said the summit is aimed at complimenting the efforts of the state government in keeping the state safe.
Speaking to Journalist101 on the importance of the summit, the president of the association, Comr Olinagu chinonso G. the idea is to hear from stakeholders on the best way to maintain peace in our environment.
“You are very aware that Ezeagu is purely an agrarian local government and if there’s no peace, how can our people go to their farms to be able to feed their families? We are a peace loving people and we can do anything to maintain that,” Comr Olinagu said.
Speaking on the efforts of the state government in maintaining peace, Olinagu said the state government is not doing badly but like they say; “security is every man’s business and this summit is one of the ways we are contributing our own quota to support the government.
“We have written to relevant security experts, agencies and stakeholders. They will be coming to speak on those things that distort peaceful coexistence like; culitism, herdsmen attack, kidnapping, and so on and give us possible security tips on how best to control or stop them.
“We don’t support violence and this summit is to promote dialogue which is the best way to settle any conflict “he concluded.
The summit will be taking place on the Wednesday, 16th of October, 2019 at Sacred Heart Parish, Iwollo Oghe in Ezeagu LGA by 10am.
