…calls on the state government to assist them in hosting the ‘august visitors’ that will be converging in the state.
The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) the umbrella body of all creative writers in Nigeria is getting set to host her “38th International Convention” in the city of Enugu from the 31st of October to the 3rd of November, 2019.
Briefing pressmen on Monday, 14th October, the state chapter chairman of ANA, Zulu Ofoelue said that over 600 creative writers from all over Nigeria have so far registered to attend this year’s event which is also an elective convention.
The title of this years’ convention is “ANA Homecoming 2019” this according to Comr. Zulu is because “the association was founded in 1981 by some distinguished Nigerian creative writers under the leadership of late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe at a meeting held at University of Nigeria Nssuka.”
Comr. Zulu, who said Nigeria famous writers like Wole Soyinka, JP Clark, Prof. Osita Ogbu amongst others will be in attendance expressed his optimism that the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the Chief Host of the occasion will assist the organization to organize a hitch free event.
He also said that the event will avail the Governor, the opportunity to showcase his modest achievements to the attendees as the state will be on the spotlight going by the caliber of persons that will be in attendance.
A member of the LOC of the event, Dr. Greg Mbarjiogu expressed his dissatisfaction that the event os not getting the required support from the state government and other stakeholders despite the efforts they put in to win the hosting right after a keen contest with other interested states.
The University of Nigeria Nsukka, (UNN) lecturer said it’s going to be a big shame and a thing of disgrace if Enugu state fails to put up a great show. He also called on the Governor to utilize this rare opportunity and endear himself to these “August Visitors” by giving the convention the necessary support.
The theme for the convention is “Literature, Nationalism and the Poetics of Integration” and the keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Egya E. Sule of IBB University, Lapai, Niger State.
Some of the highlights of the convention will include;
- WELCOME COCKTAIL: An evening of palm wine, Poetry, Folklores and Festival of Life.
- Tour Round Enugu/sight-seeing/Literary picnic.
- AGM/Business Meeting and Award Dinner.
