ENUGU— THE Enugu State Commissioner of Police Ahmad Abdurrahman has revealed his intentions to make all the supporting agencies work as one to improve the security of the state, with regards to observation of human rights amongst others.
He made this known on October 2, 2019 at the superior police officers mess at Agbani Road, Enugu on the occassion of stakeholders engagement programme and interface in line with the tenets of the community oriented policing.
According to the commissioner of police, “Stakeholders like the Neighborhood Watch Groups, Forest Guards and Traffic Agencies are important, hence the need to synergize with them and that is why it is important for the training which will prepare them ahead of the onerous task and to ensure that they constantly act within the confines of the law without loosing sight on human rights related issues.”
Over 500 participants drawn from the forest guards, neighborhood watch groups and Enugu state traffic maintenance agency, including their various leaders attended the interface including Divisional Police Officers in the state.
Other senior officers of the command as well as the Hon. Commissioner for Transport Chief Mathias Ekweremadu, the permanent secretary ministry of transport Ogbonna Idike, Prince Eko Okwudili of the forest guard and Sunday Ugwu the state chairman of Enugu neighborhood watch group, amongst others.
In their separate remarks, the participants thanked the commissioner of police for the interface which has afforded them the opportunity to learn new ideas and approach that will assist their groups.
They noted that CP Abdurrahman came to the state when the state was boiling and was able to calm all nerves and returned peace to communities and environment through his community engagement programme and community oriented policing practices and prayed God to be with him and his officers.
They also commended the governor of the state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on his giant strides and various efforts put in place for safety, peace and security of communities.
Concluding, Abdurrahman maintained that the training exercise will take effect soonest as he directed the coordinator of the training programme DCP Garba Ahmed who is in charge of operations in the state to come up with the schedule to cut across all members of the various groups.
